Equity Policy

Romsey Wasps Junior Rugby Football Club recognises the importance of giving equal opportunity and fair treatment to all present and potential members. It aims to ensure that all people irrespective of their age, gender, ability, race, religion, ethnic origin, creed, colour, nationality, social/economic status or sexual orientation have a genuine and equal opportunity to participate in Rugby Union at all levels and in all roles, be it as a player, coach, manager, referee, administrator or spectator.
The Club recognises its has legal obligations under various acts of Parliament and is committed to everyone having the right to enjoy their sport in an environment free from threat of intimidation, harassment and abuse.

It will do this by;

 Formulating and adopting policies to eliminate perceived barriers that discriminate against any particular group.
 Ensuring that no-one working or wishing to work for or on behalf of the club receives less favourable treatment on the grounds outlined in this Policy.
 Giving clear guidance to individuals working within the club, on its commitment to equal opportunities and provide appropriate training for all members and volunteers to raise awareness of both collective and individual responsibilities, to support their progress within the club and, where appropriate, provide specialised facilities, equipment and individual training.
 Ensuring that the format and content of all competitions, regulations and assessments provide equity for all, except where specific situations and conditions properly or reasonably prevent this.
 Ensuring that all materials prepared, produced and distributed by or on behalf of the club promote a clear image of the profile of all those who are a part of the game.
 Continuously monitoring and reviewing activities to ensure individuals are selected promoted and treated solely on the basis of their skills and abilities, which are appropriate to the position.
 Increasing collaboration with other organisations to ensure equity, fair and consistent treatment of all members.

In order to achieve this, the club;
 May take special measures or positive action in favour of any group that is currently underrepresented in its membership.
 Reserves the right to limit competitions to persons of specific age, gender or disability groups where this is necessary to ensure equitable, safe and equal competition.
 Will not accept the imposing of any conditions or requirements that cannot be justified.

All club members have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory behaviour and promote equality of opportunity and the club expects all those acting on its behalf to adhere to this policy.
In pursuance of it, the club reserves the right to discipline any of its members who practice any form of discrimination, be it direct or indirect, on the grounds of a persons age, gender, ability, race, religion, ethnic origin, creed, colour, nationality, social status or sexual orientation.
